With this free Snow Melting Experiment worksheet, your preschool and early elementary kids will learn about the elements of an experiment and practice their measuring and estimation skills as they discover that matter can change states.

Using the free printable Snow Melting Experiment, your kids will measure snow, then estimate how much water it will be when it melts, and then finally measure the actual water after it melts to compare to their estimations. They will also see how snow changes from a solid into a liquid when placed in a warm room.

This snow melting experiment worksheet is a part of our multi-subject My First Little House Book – Sugar Snow Unit Study for preschool to 2nd graders.

Snow Melting Experiment Instructions

  1. Pack snow into a glass (if you don’t have snow, crushed ice will work too), and help your child measure how deep the snow is in the glass.
  2. Record it on the graph.
  3. Ask him how much water he thinks will be in the glass after the snow melts, and record that answer as well.
  4. Now place the glass in a warm spot, allowing the snow to melt, and record the amount of water in the glass.
  5. How close was your child’s guess?
