Completing your Parts of Speech Lapbook

Verbs:

For the triangle verbs mini-book, under the folded flaps that say “action,” “being,” “condition,” write an example or two of those types of verbs. Hint: the difference between “being” and “condition” is whether something is permanent, i.e. The plant is dead, or temporary, i.e. Suzy is crying.

Have your student cut out the verb pictures (not all of the pictures on that page are verbs) and glue them onto the rectangle verbs mini book.

Nouns:

It may help your students to think of a noun as being a house or pentagon shape due to the 5 different types of nouns: Person, Place, Thing, Idea, or Activity.

Sort the common nouns from the proper nouns and glue them into the mini book under the correct label.

Pronouns:

Glue the correct people onto the mini-books for he/him, she/her, and they/them.

Parts of Speech:

Have your student write 6 words under each of the different parts of speech on the chart. Let them cut the words apart and then sort into the six different parts of speech pockets.

Prepositions:

Have your students match up the prepositions with its opposite by gluing the opposite picture inside each flap. Then have them write the names of those prepositions on the inside of the flap.

Conjunctions:

Have your student complete the conjunctions ticket mini-book by writing 7 common conjunctions. The initials of the conjunction words spell out FANBOYS: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, and So.
