New Year’s Homeschool Resolutions

The practice of setting New Year’s resolutions can be traced back to the ancient Babylonians, who promised to their pagan gods to return borrowed objects and pay their debts. 

Later, Christians would reflect on their previous mistakes and resolve to do better the coming year in watchnight services held on New Year’s Eve. 

In the modern world, people make resolutions concerning everything from their health to finances to housework. 

But what about homeschooling? 

Should we make resolutions about improvements we can make in our homeschool? 

I can’t say whether or not you should make any resolutions, but if I was making homeschool resolutions, here’s what they might be.

Homeschool Resolutions:

• Keep Record Book Updated Regularly – I sometimes get behind on inputting our time spent into the spreadsheet I use to keep track of the totals.  It really is much easier to do when it is done regularly. 
• Go on More Field Trips – When our kids were littler, we went on lots of field trips.  Everything was new and interesting to them.  Now that they are high school age, field trips are a bit trickier to choose.  We have only been on one so far this school year.  Time for more! 
• Evaluate Our Curriculum – Before I choose curriculum for the next school year, I would like to evaluate what we have been using to see how effective it is in teaching my children.

I’m sure your resolutions, if you make any, will be different from mine.   But, no doubt, we all have areas in our homeschool in which we can strive to improve!
