Chief Joseph led the Wal-lam-wat-kain band of the Nez Perce beginning in the 1870s. He was also known as Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekt (sometime spelled In-mut-too-yah-lat-lat); sometimes he was called Young Joseph, or Joseph the Younger, since he succeeded his father, Joseph, as the leader of his Native American tribe, which was located in the interior Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

These notebooking pages are generally for students working at the 2nd to 8th grade levels.

The Nez Perce war with the United States government in 1877 is considered the “last great Native American battle” and began after gold was discovered on the tribe’s land.

The Nez Perce were known for their amazing horsemanship skills and fishing abilities.
