Should We Take a Homeschool Christmas Break?

One of the questions I have been asked frequently over the years of homeschooling is whether or not we take a Homeschool Christmas break.

5 reasons Why we take a Christmas break from homeschooling

We could school all the way through the holidays; there is definitely nothing wrong with that, but we don’t.

We have always taken a Christmas break from our regular school work. Here are five reasons why.

5 Reasons Why We Take a Homeschool Christmas Break

  • Rejuvenation: I find a short break from the day to day teaching and checking papers reinvigorates and gets me ready for the second half of the school year.
  • Christmas Baking: We like to bake Christmas cookies and make homemade candies to share with family and neighbors. With the kids on a school break, they are able to help with these projects. There is also a lot of math and chemistry in candy making, so we are still learning things.
  • Handmade Gifts: Taking a break from school allows your kids (and you) more time for creating handmade gifts.
  • Fun School: There are a lot of fun Christmas themed activities available on the internet. Sometimes, regular school can get in the way of fun school activities. We use our break to do some of the fun things we normally do not have time to do.
  • Holiday Traveling: As much as we love visiting Grandma, traveling over the river and through the woods takes time. If you have to travel, it can make the journey less stressful if you don’t have to bring along school books. Everyone will have a better time if they can just enjoy their visit without having work to do.

Although we take a break from our normal routine, you can see that we still manage to learn a little. Do you take a break, or do you work right through the holidays?
