Activities for Your American Football Lapbook
Cut out and complete the following mini-books for your American Football Lapbook
History of Football: Write about the history of football in the boxes, and then place the cut-out boxes inside the pocket style envelope. Your student will write about how the ball, the safety equipment, and the rules have changed, plus they will note when and where the first American football game was played.
Scoring of Football: Then and Now – Write the points awarded for each play in 1883 and today. Your student will write about the history of how football is scored for touchdowns, field goals, PAT (point after touchdown) kick, PAT run or pass/catch, and a safety.
Player’s Positions: Label and then cut out each of the helmets with the correct position name for both offense and defense. Glue the helmets onto the football field.
Football Field: Label the parts of the football field using the word bank. (Note: this is a smaller version of our Label the Parts of an American Football Field worksheet. Fun Fact: Did you know that a football field is also called a “pitch”?
Football: Describe the describe the construction of the ball used in American football, plus what it’s made of, and how big it is in this football-shaped book.
Offense: On each of the football shaped pieces, write the name of an offensive position and describe it. Cut the footballs out and fasten together with a brass fastener (sometimes called a “brad”).
Defense: On each of the football shaped pieces, write the names of the defensive positions and describe them. Cut the footballs out and fasten together with a brass fastener (sometimes called a “brad”).
Super Bowl: Inside the matchbook, write about who plays in the biggest National Football League game each year and how many of these ultimate championship games have been played (be sure to use Roman numerals) Hint: the game is between the AFC and the NFC champions.
Special Teams: Write about special teams, kickers, punters, and kick returners on the pages of the flipbook.
Equipment: Describe the specialized safety equipment football players wear to reduce injuries.
NFL Conferences: List the teams in each conference (the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference) and then in each division of each conference.
Favorite Team: Write about your favorite football team and why you like to support them.
Arena Football: Write about Arena football and how it’s different from (and the same as) the more commonly known NFL football.
The Players: Make cards for all of your favorite players. Use the extra set if your child has more than three favorites.
