I believe it is a good idea for students to have a good working knowledge of basic accounting principles.
More and more people are starting small businesses on the side and would benefit from a knowledge of accounting. Even if the small business person hires out their accounting tasks, it is still good practice to know what all of the statements mean!
With this in mind, I put together an Accounting – High School Elective Syllabus for my students.
I have made the weekly schedule for the accounting class available for you to use also.
Here are the resources we used in our Accounting Class:
This Accounting elective is designed to be completed by your high school student over the course of 30 weeks.
The Practical Accounting Fundamentals book provides all of the technical accounting information plus chapter exercises and periodic tests.
I added in The Accounting Game for a little bit of fun as well as a practical application of the concepts learned.
We used the same columnar pad through several students with some leftover afterwards.
The course syllabus has been designed so the students are studying the same concepts in each book throughout the class.
