
Suggested Activities to go with the book:
Find Wisconsin on a United States map. Discuss the climate of Wisconsin
and compare it to where you live.
Compare how the Ingalls family did things described in the book to
how your family does them today.
Go to a Farmer's Market or grocery store to look for the vegetables
Ma, Laura, and Mary gathered from their garden. Pick a few to try at
home.
Make butter. Put heavy cream into a clear container with a lid. Let
kids shake!
Make bread or shaped cookies. Here is a simple bread recipe small children
can do with a little help.
Dissolve 1 1/4 teaspoon yeast into 1 Cup of lukewarm water. Add
1 Tablespoon sugar and 1 Tablespoon of oil and mix. Add 2 Cups of flour.
Mix and knead. Place in greased bowl. Cover with a towel and put in
a warm place to rise. Let it rise for 1 1/2 hours. Punch down the dough,
shape into a loaf and put in greased loaf pan. Let rise for another
hour. Bake at 375 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
